Closing Convention Session by Larry Yawn
The threat of rain forced a change in the location of the final session of the 2012 Democratic Convention. Instead of the football statium, delegates and guests convened in Time Warner Cable Arena which had served as the site for all other previous sessions. The move was a good one. As the session began, it was raining very hard. Even though the arena would not hold all the people who had come to Charlotte to hear President Obama, additional sections were opened and people filled the arena to the roof. We were packed in!
As with other sessions, great speakers set a very positive tone leading up to the acceptance speeches of Vice President Biden and President Obama. Both speeches shaped the election as a choice that the American people must make. Both speeches stressed the change which has come to our nation because of the election of President Obama. Both speeches factually explained the current economic status of the county and the steps which have been taken to address jobs. Both speeches recounted the events surrounding the wars and terrorism. Both speeches were great.
This election is important! We cannot retreat from the changes which have been made through the Obama administration. We must move forward. As the President pointed out, this election is not about him. It is about us and the future which we want to have. Make your plans now. Join this crucial effort.
So we are on our way home in about six hours. See you soon.

I went to the Convention as a volunteer. Both of my hosting session and my security job at the Stadium were cancelled, but the atmosphere was electric. If we can get our voters excited, we can win. If we get a respectable turnout in Texas, we may get some help in 2016.
